As Mark Twain would have said, it had its discrepancies, although I could whip up a meat-and-three for my boys on a table top in about 30 minutes. Was completely unsatisfactory in any kind of wind and was essentially non-functional on any throttle setting other than the highest. So that was my background; in looking for a new stove I was most interested in the grill surface area and its burner's BTU rating. I ended up with the Camp Chef product over the similar Coleman product because of the Camp Chef's 12,000 BTU grill burner (the 8,000 BTU ring burner seems to be more than adequate). The Rainier's footprint is significantly larger than what I had, but it's also much shorter . . and therein lies my one quibble: You can't put the lid down while cooking. Used it to cook breakfast and dinner on the camp site for 2-4 families we stayed together with. Worked very well both in terms of cook time and how much meat I could barbecue at one time. Pretty easy to clean up. And it certainly is compact, perfect for travel. The unit is unstable because the legs are uneven, This, in turn, is due to warpage and denting in the bottom of the case. Similarly, the drip channel below the grill is misaligned, so that some of the grease would be diverted to unreachable areas inside the case. The latch attaching the cover to the bottom of the case is misaligned. One of the wind shields is also warped. Finally, both units arrived with small dents, chipped paint and other blemishes, both inside and out.I had hoped that the first one was merely damaged in shipment, but this is clearly not the case. Even the packaging demonstrates the poor attention to detail and quality control. The plastic bag over the unit is too small, so that one end of the unit is exposed directly to the outside packing box and subject to scratching during shipment. It should also be noted...
