Too many I'm sure, just like me. The carafe breaks, can't find the right style replacement, or it just stops working after a few years.I am DONE with shoddy electric appliances. I did a little online searching, and I decided that a stainless steel percolator was the right choice: * No glass carafe to break, no electrical components to wear out, and I can use it even if the power is out (gas stove or outside on campfire). *all stainless steel parts, sturdy, easy to clean *basket has a cover (not all percolator baskets do) * dome is made from Lexan resin, which is BPA-free and resistant to breaking (unlike percolators with glass domes, and I have read some reviews that complain of frequent cracking) * does not require filter papers * doesn't hog up counter space in my tiny galley kitchen * makes a REALLY GOOD cup of... Sturdy - taking it out of the box, it was of a heavier gauge stainless steel than I thought it would be. I think it will be around for a very long time - this thing is made to last. 2.) As advertised, it is seamless. There are no seams where it can leak. 3.) The silicone handle works like a charm. I can remove this percolator directly from the stovetop with my bare hand. I don't need a hot pad or towel to protect my hand from the heat - the silicone handle stays cool to the touch. 4.) The lid is permanently connected to the body of the percolator with a hinge. I didn't see this anywhere in the product description. I generally wash it by hand, but if you want to run it through your dishwasher, you may have to jockey things around to be able to fit it in your particular dishwasher since you cannot disconnect the lid... In fact, Lexan IS A HEALTH HAZARD. I contacted GSI and they were very helpful, telling me the now use "copolyester" for the cap/dome, NOT Lexan, since they now know Lexan is a health risk. Any hazardous plastic becomes even more of a health risk when heat is applied, as in the dome of the percolator.GSI said any sellers who are still selling the Lexan top percolator have old inventory. A search of copolyester shows NO HEALTH RISKS. For me, I'll either buy this elsewhere, with the copolyester top, or wait for Amazon to get the safe model. UPDATE: GSI has said, to the best of their knowledge, Amazon has never had the old model, with Lexan dome. Based upon this, I ordered one today. |
